With JJ Abrams off in the Star Wars universe, it’s been a bit of a waiting game to see what Paramount and his production company of Skydance would do for a director. With Abrams company still handling the producing side of the project, it hasn’t been a secret that screenwriter Robert Orci, who worked on the first two and is writing this installment, has been lobbying hard for the gig in order to up his standing a bit and to bring his vision out there. Orci, who has gone through a split recently with longtime writing partner Alex Kurtzman who is off on his own projects at Sony these days, is writing the third Star Trek fetaure with JD Payne and Patrick McKay. No details about the film are now but the main cast is all slated to return when things finalize on it per contracts from the original film.
