Manga-ka to Assistant-san to Episode 6
We haven’t had a beach or hot spring episode yet? The hell?

What They Say:
A hilarious slice of life comedy that leisurely depicts the day-to-day life of manga artist Aito Yuuki and his assistant, Ashisu Sahoto!

As we hit the sixth episode of the series, you suddenly realize that the show has somehow managed to avoid some of the usual things we get in a lot of series of this nature. That’s corrected as Aito sets the plan in motion for everyone to go to the hot springs and beach resort so they can get some fun in the sun. Of course, he’s interested in getting out there to see everyone in their swimsuits and there’s a certain fun there since Aito is so tactless at times because of his social issues that you can understand why he’s so blunt. That that it helps to minimize the problems that he causes, but in the end we get the expected montage material as he goes on his photography spree and captures lots of candid shots of everyone that are both cute and fun and surprisingly less creepy than one might think.

There’s a lot of silliness in the water, especially when Ashisu loses her top and Aito “has” to help out while trying to restrain himself, which leads to its own bit of fun. But we also get the usual hot spring elements to with the expected outfits and Aito wanting to bath with the girls, which is something that he can do since he booked them at a mixed bath place. While they do come up with a way to protect themselves from his wandering eyes, they don’t think through his usual pratfalls and other physical elements which proves to have some hilarious shocking material for them to suffer through. It’s all predictable to be sure but it plays out well as they all have to cope with his nature and the regular amount of not-displayed nudity that comes about.

In Summary:
Hot springs and beach episodes are predictable and we certainly get that here, but compacted into the thirteen minute run time. This works out well since it doesn’t linger on any particular gag and largely breaks itself up into the three parts of beach, hot spring and overnight activities. Aito continues to basically be the child that he comes across as with how he interacts with others and the girls act as they usually do so there’s no surprises here. While it plays up the pervy stuff enough, it’s surprisingly tame with the visuals but it does have a good bit of fun with it and I’ll once again admit to enjoying the simplicity of what we get here with this odd kind of harem show that has come about.
