[JP BD] Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro.

With a planned August 6th, 2014 release date, a trailer has been released by TOHO for the remastered Japanese Blu-ray edition of Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro. The feature is getting released this year by Studio Ghibli in Japan and they’re producing this release based on the newly struck HD telecine. The trailer shows off the feature in general but provides for a couple of very tasty comparisons towards the end that will make fans of the Hayao Miyazaki film quite happy. The release is set for 7,410 yen on Blu-ray and 4,935 yen on DVD and will be Japanese only. Discotek Media has picked up the rights to the feature recently and is set to release their DVD this summer as well with Blu-ray coming later, presumably working off of this new transfer as well but being delayed so the home market can get it out first. And with no sub or dub on the Japanese side, they’re making it so that more people will go for the Discotek version as well.

The release looks to come with a dubbing script and storyboard video with picture in picture capability set for it. The Japanese audio track with have a 2.0 PCM track and a 1.0 DTS-HD MA track as well as a DVD designed Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital mix.

Plot conceptAfter a successful robbery leaves famed thief Lupin III and his partner Jigen with nothing but a large amount of fake money, the so called “Goat Bills”, he decides to track down the counterfeiter responsible – and steal any other treasures he may find in the Castle of Cagliostro, including the ‘damsel in distress’ he finds imprisoned there. However, as usual, Inspector Zenigata is hot on his trail.

Tracking the legendary counterfeits known as “Goat Bills,” international thief Arsene Lupin III arrives at the Duchy of Cagliostro. Once there, he nearly rescues a damsel in distress from the Regent’s guards. Following his failure, Lupin takes it upon himself to save her from captivity.
