Tonari no Seki-kun Episode 17
Tonari no Seki-kun Episode 17
Wherein Seki once again controls the fate of a family.

What They Say:
Class is in session at a certain high school. While the teacher isn’t looking, a boy named Seki-kun is playing games by himself on his desk, while the girl who sits next to him, Yokoi-san, observes (or interferes or participates). Each time, Seki-kun’s games reach unimaginable levels… And this time the game is…

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With the kids in English class this time, there’s not much in the way of class activities that will make an impact here. Which is good as Seki has basically come up with a paper version of Mr. Potato Head in a way with Fukawarai, which has him using a paper body and placing face pieces on it while blindfolded. Yokoi’s unable to restrain her laugher from the get go as he plays this cihldren’s game. While he starts it off in a simple way as most kids would – and excels at it – he goes over the top with all sorts of comical hairstyles and other pieces to use. Which naturally has Yokoi getting invested in the “person” that is having all of these applied to him. She really brings it to life like we’ve seen in other episodes and this is no exception. With Seki taking it further by creating a family and a story with more of these characters, it just spirals out of control with how Yokoi views it all.

In Summary:
While I certainly enjoy all of Seki’s antics and this one is no exception as he brings everything out in a big way with the paper family he builds and grows, it’s the way Yokoi reacts to it that really sells me on the show. She has so many great reactions to it all and handles it in such an over the top way while reading so much into it that you can’t help but to laugh. And as we see once again here, it’s the detriment of her own studies and education since she’s missing out on more and more of her classes due to his actions. It’s no surprise that she’s the one that gets caught and in trouble whereas Seki seemingly manages to get away with it all, though not without a few problems along the way.
