No Game, No Life | Episode 3no-game-no-life-episode-03

stardf29: And now we finally get a look at what games really will look like in this show. If the rest of the show is like this, in terms of both exciting gameplay and sheer absurdity (inspiring chess pieces with the power of cuteness), this should be a good show.

GingaDaiuchuu: Just a simple little chess game where the pieces happen to have their own wills. Even with Kurami setting this up for her to have the advantage, Shiro very nearly beats her by sheer skill. Even if it was made for the purpose of cheating, though, it does make sense as a test of who would be the better leader, and that presents the perfect opportunity for Sora to make the first indication of why he could succeed as the king, immediately taking charge in his own way that surpasses what Kurami could even imagine. It just gets crazier from there, and integrates elements from countless other kinds of games, even making Sora call upon his galge skills to get the job done. There’s still more to come, though, so this game will end up being quite the major event.

A few fun references, as well.

EmperorBrandon: The best part of it was “lines we wanted to say someday” after one of them. Not just references, but their geeky selves are really enjoying using them.

bctaris: And that’s turning into the show’s heart.

But really, it’s all more crazy, and funny, than I thought it would be. And I’m happy about that. Sora and Shiro both are a little bonkers in their obsessions and the way they can finally, literally, play them out in this world. Hope it continues to be presented that way, even as things get inevitably more serious.

Sensuifu: I wasn’t expecting it to be as insane either, especially with the way this episode played out. Loved the way Sora thought outside the box, using his own methods to outsmart Kurami. I didn’t expect Sora to make Shiro cry though..was a little mean of him by making her wait ’till the last second.

Nork22: It’s all part of his plans to make his army fight for the sake of a maiden’s tear.

Sora you glorious bastard!
