Baby Steps Episode 1

stardf29: This is looking good. There’s already good chemistry between the main leads, and sports-wise, having a guy start as a complete beginner should make for a good story.

Buckeye: That was a pretty good episode there as typical of a sports anime. This time, it’s a story about a complete beginner who will turn into somebody that spends timeouts studying rather than catching his breath. And then there is the girl who aspires to go play matches with the likes of Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. As things stand, only one sports anime will make it, and so far it makes a nice impression.

smashwagon: Ei-chan is an instantly likable lead character, and Natsu has a nice spirit about her. I like the set-up of super nerd looking to just keep fit by doing something physical once a week, is finding something that maybe he can actually love about life.

On the minus side, that theme song is corny to the max, and the character design (even on the leads) is absolutely terrible. Some of the background characters literally have bulbous Bert and Ernie noses which makes it hard to even look at them.

Tennis is my favorite sport, and I expect I will follow this series the whole way.

Chisel: At first I wasn’t too keen on the character designs, but being a tennis lover and from hearing good things about the source material I decided to check it out. It was a pretty good episode and I really liked how they animated the match in the beginning. Looks much more better compared to the only other tennis anime I know of, Prince of Tennis. I heard it’s much more realistic and doesn’t have the special skills and super-powers which I wholeheartedly look forward to. This was one of the reasons why I couldn’t really get into Prince of Tennis.

GingaDaiuchuu: As someone who’s not a big fan of actual sports, I think I tend to gravitate toward the sports anime that exaggerate things a little more, or at least try to make them more exciting than they’d realistically be, so this show isn’t working for me as well as some. It still looks fairly nice if not extraordinary.
