Haikyuu!! | Episode 1 | TFP Review

Haikyuu!!

Buckeye: That was just a strong episode here, and I certainly see lots of great things coming out from this show. The story has lots of potential telling how size doesn’t matter as this guy’s high jump makes up for that deficiency.

stardf29: This was a lot of fun. It helps that I like to cheer on the short people in sports. I’d say that has absolutely nothing to do with being short myself, but I’d be totally lying.

GingaDaiuchuu: Ah good, so I was at least somewhat right in expecting a similar approach to Kuroko’s Basketball from this. Very different in that it follows more of an underdog, although with him having one impressive talent and moving from a team operated only by his own passion to the prestigious high school that he’ll have to learn to adjust to feels very similar to Ace of Diamond.

Also a lot mellower than Kuroko’s Basketball in general, but I can tell there’s that fire burning underneath that could lead to some really great scenes. I.G is clearly giving it a comparable attention to detail, at least so far, so I look forward to more beautifully animated games.

And I definitely knew those two would end up at the same high school together from when they first met.

27CansOfTuna: Had to really feel for the country team of amateurs coming to the big tournament to try to give it their all. I loved how they did band around their captain and even recognizing their own lack of abilities felt good enough to want to try to do their best and help him score if not to win. Koji and the other’s tears, and then Hinata always saying dont mind and making them not feel bad too.

There were lots of nice little touches with king Kageyama, the sometimes robe appearing or jacket moving and everyone giving him that title. And then though grumpy, couldnt ever feel bad since he was truly the kind of serious player on their team and Hinata on the other.

They kept the volleyball explanations too, one of the best parts of sports series when they explain stuff in a real and competent manner.

Chisel: I thought it was a pretty good and strong first episode. Did a nice job introducing the MC through showing and not explaining it. I also thought the short scenes with Kageyama in King attire was nice and cool. I love the the detail and animation. Hope they can keep it up. Looking forward to following this show through the season. Seems like there are quite a few sports shows I’ll be watching this season.

Gildor: Not a bad beginning. I will have to decide between this and Baby Steps I think. Don’t know if I want to be watching 2 sports anime (3 if you count the continuing Yowamushi Pedal) with all the other good stuff coming up. Looks like only one token female, a coach or something.I am more inclined to watch V-ball than tennis, but we’ll see how the shows develop over a couple-three episodes.

smashwagon: I hope it doesn’t go the way of KuroBasket, as that series got tiresome quickly with the constant super powered rivals and silly set-ups. This show started out very nice though, the animation in particular was extremely nuanced. Some of the background characters on both sides were little more than cardboard approximations of people, but I hope the action stays the cornerstone of the series.

27CansOfTuna: Fortunately, there are no superpowered like abilities in this series.
