Sony’s plans to expand the Spider-Man film universe took another step towards reality today as the Sinister Six feature now has a confirmed director with Drew Goddard. Goddard’s name has been bandied about for a bit and it’s certainly an interesting choice considering his overall ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are in motion. Goddard signed on recently to write and direct the Daredevil ten episode series for Marvel that will debut next year on Netflix and he’s close with Joss Whedon, having been the co-writer and director on Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods project that came out previously.
There’s no timeline as to when this feature will take place, but Sony’s looking at a new Spider-Man related project every year in the next couple of years and 2017 is opening up nicely between the third and fourth installments of the main franchise. Goddard is definitely a smart choice for it considering his credits as he wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and did work in the years after with Angel, Alias, and Lost as well as the screenplay for Cloverfield. goddard/#KRCQxCCc7XR0l9wk.99
