‘Dreadstar’ Gets Optioned

With the recently revived interest in science fiction stories for the big screen, one of the 1980’s classics of comic book origin has now found itself optioned at long last after a vareity of fits and starts over the years to do so. Jim Starlin’s Dreadstar has now been picked up for development by Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment. J.C. Spink of Benderspink is reportedly a fan of the property and pursued the rights upon discovering that they were actually available. The series has had a few comics done over the years and has moved to various publishers due to it being a creator owned title. Starlin has a long and storied history in the comics, including the creation of Thanos, Drax the Destroy and Gamora, characters that are now populating the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Plot concept: Dreadstar features the adventures of Vanth Dreadstar and his crew! Dreadstar, the last survivor of the destroyed Milky Way Galaxy, found himself transported to the Empirical Galaxy! There, recruited by the sorcerer Syzygy Darklock, Dreadstar helped bring an end to a two-hundred-year-old war between the corrupt Monarchy and the fanatical Instrumentality.
