Golden Time Episode 24

GingaDaiuchuu: Okay, that was a much better ending than I was expecting considering how the series has been heading for… like, the entire second half. But yeah, given the corner it had backed itself into, that was about the best way it could possibly end. I’m still very disappointed in Takemiya considering how amazing Toradora! was, even before taking into account how brilliant a team adapted that, but it was definitely still good, if not quite as good as it had gotten earlier on.

I’m still not sure how I feel about Ghost Banri popping up, interacting with Linda, and giving Banri the ring, but I suppose it was inevitable given how much he’s been a part of the story, and that wrapped up his role as well as facilitating a lot of what needed to happen in the plot that realistically wouldn’t without that supernatural element.

Hitsugi Amachi: The ending would have been better without that.

It was okay. For a show that started out fairly well, faltered at times, seemed to right itself, but then faltered again, it was…okay. Not as good as Toradora. The realism of some of the characters and some of the situations was completely undermined and made a mockery of by the unnecessary supernatural elements and extreme histrionics.

Eh…it’s a story that was in need of a good editor. Apparently the source material did not get the attention of a good editor. This is what results when that happens.

Sly05: The ending was better than I was expecting, but man was Ghost Banri a really dumb plot device. I also don’t think Banri’s personality was handled very consistently. Given how often pre-accident Banri was depicted as a hysterical wreck who was overly dependent on Linda protecting him from non-existent threats, did he suddenly get over that when he got his old memories back for good? Really, all of Banri’s story arc fell on its face.

There was parts of the series I liked, but it’s been a letdown overall. It never managed to make me care about the characters and most of what happened seemed to occur only to make unnecessary drama to draw out the story. I think I would have preferred if it focused just on helping Koko become a better and more stable person.

Sensuifu: Nice to have a happy ending, but it’s a shame mostly everything else in between was on a bad carousel of nonsensical melodrama. The show could’ve been on par with Toradora had it not been for the various, extraneous devices that were unnecessary (i.e. the personification of Banri’s amnesia in the form of a ghost) to the outcome. That aspect of Banri’s character seemed to attempt something creative, but the execution just fell flat with it. Had it been done differently, he might not have been as irritating and the series may not have ran in circles.

There should be a spinoff just with 2D-kun, the Tea Club Girls, and Nana. That would make up for the low points Golden Time is plagued with. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to see Nana pursue 2D-kun/vice-versa?

GingaDaiuchuu: 2D-kun is still the best. Goddamn.

EmperorBrandon: Indeed. I really liked his role here.

Buckeye: Overall, this show is just a nice show about love and friendship, and how something like amnesia can mess up a person. The setup is pretty interesting with a love triangle formed through amnesia, and the story, for the most part, was executed pretty well. The first half is great, but things started to go downhill in the second half with all this Ghost Banri stuff happening and Banri being a total wuss over his amnesia. Not to mention, the characters were acting out of character way too much in the second half. Despite that, it’s a very nice show as I would expect from the one who wrote Toradora.
