And so closes the first season. Yes, first season.
What They Say:
Kou comes to a certain city, in search of his older brother Takumi, who ran away from home and disappeared. Thinking it’d be rather difficult to find his older brother, Kou decides not to go back until he finds him… but he ends up finding him immediately. However, when Kou is reunited with Takumi, he had become the head of the Mikuni Detective Agency. Takumi appears to have no intentions to go back home. Kou then decides that if his older brother isn’t going to come home, he’s going to stay at the Mikuni Detective Agency.
The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With the season finale, we get a bit of magical girl fun with some nods towards ailor Moon as the group is brought in to have Takumi take on the role of the lead role in Sailor Bloomoon for the stage play that’s being done for audiences. This means some crossplay to be sure but also a lot of silly references and even a great little music nod towards the original as they skewer it reverently. Giving us Takumi in bloomers and a schoolgirl top certainly has its moments, especially since he’s just so horribly violent and kind of vulgar with it all. With the agency as a whole involved, both in setup and in wearing costumes and acting, it’s just basically a series of silly moments that only works because we’re all enjoying the way it plays off of the Sailor Moon franchise rather than what the characters themselves are doing.
In Summary:
When in doubt, always go with a good parody of a popular property and you’ll find people will laugh and grin. Mostly because it’s referencing something you know and possibly enjoy. Strange+ closes out its first season well enough here with your basic Sailor Moon sendup with the kind of sexual references you might expect, plenty of bloomers and some healthy violence along the way. There aren’t any surprises, but it manages to be one of the more straightforward episodes of the season and clicks fairly well.
