Soni-Ani: Super Sonico the Animation Episode 11 | TFP Review

Super Sonico Episode 11

EmperorBrandon: It’s the classic shopping district vs. big new department store (it’s even called “Giant”: the ridiculous names this episode were amusing) battle. The department store pulls off some dirty tricks, but I like that they don’t have some cartoony evil representative appearing or anything. They’re a soulless, faceless entity as they probably should be.

And of course we know exactly how Suzu’s business sense goes. It’s all about enticing people with sexy outfits. Sonico gets an outfit that looks like a cross between a santa costume and a chinadress, with Ouka’s looks like a cross with overalls. Hah, and speaking of Ouka, poor girl: everyone ignores her. She’s kind of the contrast with Sonico with how vain she is but isn’t actually successful. Oh, and there are more android quirk moments this episode.

Dang, when Grandma gets to speaking Engrish, she’s pretty scary and threatening. This episode seemed to make fun of foreigners. The overseas idol group backed out of their contract with the big department store (haha… but it serves them right anyway), and then we have the group of foreigners going all wow-samurai-kabuki-whatever-this-is over Manager Kitamura.

Apparently having a “real” Santa Claus is a big draw. I really liked the sweet heartwarming angle they took that with Ayaka and her father on that (even if a bit of silliness as with the rest of the episode). The flashback scene with Sonico was curious. I don’t we’ve ever heard anything about her family aside from her grandma.

Well, looks like next episode will bring in all the different people Sonico’s connected with over the series. I’ll be happy to see Sayaka again. And I guess this is cameo girl’s last chance. Will she be a cameo again (did spot her this episode), or will she finally be prominent?
