The Pilot’s Love Song Episode 10 | TFP Review
Sensuifu: So we finally get a nice look at what’s eating Ignacio and why he lashes out on Kal. Understandably, he might have all the right to bash in Kal’s face, though he doubles his disciplinary actions as a motivator for Kal to man up and look after Nina Viento. You see, he’s a smart guy, this Ignacio. Instead of only him acting as bodyguard for Claire, he’s dividing up the duty to Kal so he doesn’t have to work so hard. No seriously though, it was almost refreshing for Kal to get some sense punched into him. There’s no time for brooding in depression, so if Ari couldn’t get Kal to wake up sooner, might as well have Ignacio do it the hard way. Of course we haven’t seen what Kal intends to do now that he knows who Nina Viento really is, but I’m looking forward to how he’ll reconcile his issues with her.
It was amusing to see Sonia decide to desert her military duties for the sake of saving the kids. It’s not very common to see a character stand up with contradictory principles, although with the circumstances they were in, it’s no wonder she’s sick of seeing them drop like flies. I doubt she’ll be indicted, ’cause she wasn’t the only one who tried to prevent the students from leaving. It’s also interesting to see Commander Leopold order this ‘escort mission’ despite what just happened to his son.
The death flags are still apparent, but this time we’re left with a little cliffhanger. Still interesting to see where Ignacio’s story will go, particularly with how he got involved with Claire and how he’ll resolve his animosity toward Kal.
bctaris: Yeah, so Ignacio… The suggestion here goes more to explain his actions thus far: he could be Kal’s half-brother. He’s learned by now to let things go, in some respects–backing off, as he’s grown up, from “Kal must die”–or to at least channel it to something else, like protecting Claire, and even making sure she’s happy by fulfilling Kal’s previous commitment to her. And perhaps he means to show Kal the same way. He could simply still be using him in his own duties to protect Claire, but it goes somewhere in explaining why he himself didn’t just throw Kal off Isla in the beginning.
Sensuifu: It’s definitely possible Ignacio is Kal’s half-brother. What I’m curious about is his current need to protect Claire, since they both supposedly are exiles from the Wind Revolution. Is it for the same reasons that Kal is being targeted, or at least the place where Balsteros suspects them to be? One other interesting thing is why Isla has to uphold Nina Viento’s role in the war, particularly when they know she isn’t of ‘current use’ like she previously was. I’m wondering if the enemies know or still fear she’s a threat. I’m guessing they do know that Isla is bluffing, thus their constant attacks on them as they wouldn’t risk decimation had Claire retained her powers. It’s interesting to see how she’s still being used despite the lack of firepower Isla has. Levamme probably knows, and it’ll be nice to see more support from them since the war is pretty much a one-side, losing battle for Isla right now.
bctaris: And he really is a hell of a shot. (Though it strains realism even more so than usual with this free hand rifle work in a moving airplane schtick the show likes so much. )
Sensuifu: Yeah, some unrealistic stuff now and then, though what’s more disappointing is the very sloppy artwork/animation quality in this episode. Probably the worst I’ve seen of the series so far. Some scenes were just laughably bad.
