Some hospitals definitely provide a whole lot more in the hospitality department.
What They Say:
Nimura and Mayu are having major relationship problems. Too nervous to have sex with Mayu, Nimura decides that it’ll be better if they just break up. But while they might want to go their own separate ways, fate has its own plans for the two of them. Both Nimura and Mayu end up working at Aoshima General Hospital! While having to work together might be uncomfortable for them, it’s also stirring up a lot of gossip among the hospital’s staff.
But the gossip isn’t really having much of an impact on either of them since the hospital’s sexy staff and horny patients are keeping them on call night and day! The young nurse Satsuki taunts Nimura relentlessly with her hot body… the voluptuous head-nurse Ryoko seems to have her mind set on landing him in bed… not to mention that the patients can’t get enough of him!
All of this attention is great, but Nimura is still struggling with his feelings for Mayu and seeing her every day is making him more anxious than ever. Will this young couple find a way to patch things up despite all of the sexual distractions?
The Review:
Audio:
The audio presentation for this release brings us the original Japanese language in stereo as well as the previously created English language track, both of which are encoded at 192kbps. Like most of the Vanilla Series releases, it has a pretty standard stereo mix that’s mostly just center channel based with its dialogue. The music and occasional sound effects use the stereo channels well enough but it’s not a standout piece nor is it expected to be. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout though and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.
Video:
Originally released in 2004, the two episode OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. The transfer for the series looks good here overall with a lot of colors that are solid and don’t exhibit any cross coloration in general. There’s some minor aliasing along the line work in a few of the panning sequences but nothing that’s terribly distracting. It’s not a terribly vibrant piece as it keeps to normal colors and even the characters only have varying shades of normal hair colors. The various scenes in the hospital play up the standard backgrounds and colors that work well enough with soft blues and greens and plenty of dark corners. There’s a nice smoothness to the animation in general here that’s well captured and the transfer is pretty much clean and problem free.
Packaging:
While a lot of the hentai covers for many releases look really good with strong designs that belie what the show itself actually looks like, Naughty Nurses is pretty much spot on here with the look of the show. It has a pretty bland piece overall, but it focuses on the assets right, with just a shot of Mayu in her uniform while hiking up her skirt a bit but that’s hard to see since the logo covers it. She does provide the blushing moment though and that may be enough for some. The logo is kept to the bottom area of the cover and there’s not a lot really getting in the way of the artwork. The back cover is much more nicely done with the bulk of it being a folder layout that has a lengthy summary and is surrounded along the left and bottom by numerous naked women in various states of undress and pleasure. The discs features and basic technical information is quick and easy to find. No insert was included in this release.
Menu:
The main menu is fairly standard stuff which looks good as it has the character art from the cover along the right half of the screen and the left half plays clips from the show as it’s all set to some brief instrumental music from the show. The entire thing has a bit of a faux widescreen feel that’s accented by white stripes as well. Navigation is simple and effective and easy to maneuver around. The disc did not read our players’ language presets properly though and defaulted to English language with sign/song subtitles.
Extras:
The extras are fairly standard material here for a Vanilla Series release with a brief slideshow of artwork from the release as well as a brief clip of dub outtakes, some of which are amusing and a couple that fall kind of flat.

One of those things that you hope never happens is that someone gets their view of what anime is like from just hentai, similar to if aliens visited and only saw adult films as their introduction to humanity. If you’re only learning from adult titles, then the one place every Westerner must end up in is a hospital since these places seem like the real hotbeds of sexual activity! The Vanilla Series is certainly a fan of nurses as they’ve brought out another two part show that has them pleasing the patients but much more interested in pleasing the doctors. At least that makes sense since they’re the ones with the money!
Naughty Nurses takes place in a fun little hospital called Aoshima General Hospital where the doctors and nurses have some fun relationships going on but it’s not quite as mean or controlling as a lot of other shows that we see. Several of the nurses are very into fooling around with everyone, some aren’t quite into it but will do it since they know it helps and then there are the new ones who are shocked – shocked I say! – that this happens at all. You almost wonder if new nurses are shown hentai before they show up to work for their first day and are told these things are unacceptable.
Into every hospital a new nurse must fall and Aoshima is no different. We initially have a rather enjoyable scene with the experienced nurse Ryoko who is having fun pleasing a political patient and getting herself off with him but it then shifts to the nurses meeting where the newest addition is a young woman named Mayu. She’s got the typical go getter attitude and is ready to do her best and hopes everyone will be kind to her. She’s shocked when she finds that her sort of relationship boyfriend Nimura is there as a new doctor. That’s a plot hole as big as some of these nurses… Anyway, she’s shocked to see him and he’s certainly surprised to see her.
From the good doctors perspective, he learns quickly that the doctors and several of the patients take advantage of the kindness of the nurses and he’s told that it’s just a perk of the job and to enjoy it, which he does but not without keeping his longing for Mayu. He even ends up with a rather young looking patient at one point that’s rather cute and fun. For Mayu, she’s shocked to find that some of the patients are expecting her to please them; one of them has the best line of “It’s late at night and my penis is suddenly hard and I can’t sleep. Can you help?” Man, if that worked…
So the two worry about their relationship since it was problematic before and now they still want to get together but things keep getting in the way as both of them fall prey to the sexual appetite of the hospital itself. The various other nurses are all into the scene and play along nicely, especially with head nurse Ryoko being a lot of fun. Can Mayu and Nimura find their true love for each other amidst all of this sex? It doesn’t really matter because you just want to see them finally get it on in the loving and caring way that they will, because you know, sex between people in love is always better.
The character designs and animation for the show overall is decent; the characters aren’t terribly young looking but they’ve got that good clean smooth look to them and with their hair designs and colors kept to natural colors it has a slightly different feel than some other recent shows we’ve seen featuring nurses. The animation itself is nicely done and while not top tier it avoids a lot of the repetition found in lower grade show and overall is problem free. Naughty Nurses feels like a show that’s trying to put something out for those not into the hardcore fetish stuff while still being very enjoyable and arousing.
In Summary:
If you watch any amount of hentai, you get exposed to hospital, doctor or nurse material at some time or other. Naughty Nurses manages to work out pretty well here with what it does since it doesn’t exactly go depraved or anything and there’s some fun little character material along the way with potential romance, issues with first times and more. It’s a pretty decent show with an amusing plot, fun characters, attractive designs and several rather good sex scenes. This isn’t the cream of the crop of nurse material but it is the kind of show that you can recommend to those wanting to get beyond the introductory level of adult anime and into something a bit more serious.
