Anime Sols has managed to pull off an interesting and in some cases surprising achievement with Creamy Mami as the fourth and final TV series set has achieved its minimum to be produced today of $18,000. Things came down to the wire, but the achievement of it is important. Anime Sols came out with a lot of crowdfunding projects since its debut but Creamy Mami was one that really felt like it had the most to prove, both to fans that it could be done and done well, but also to the Japanese companies that are keeping an eye on it as a way to bring out various smaller shows while keeping themselves firmly in control of the project.

Anime Sols had its challenges in doing so, with several projects running at once, relatively low awareness since it wasn’t able to run on a much more well known service like Kickstarter and its ties to Amazon for payment, and the communication aspect where it came down to Twitter and Facebook which are both limited in a number of ways for actually getting through to your fans. With the lessons learned here, we’re hoping for some good releases in the future beyond this series since there are a lot of good titles to choose from, but fans should take heart that one of those few remaining holy grails of never-will-be-licensed shows has been crossed off the list and given a solid DVD treatment.

Series concept: Yuu is a rambunctious ten-year old who loves having adventures and helping out at her parents’ shop Creamy Crepes. She also has a crush on Toshio, her handsome thirteen-year-old neighbor. One day she finds a spaceship, and after rescuing the aliens inside, they thank her by giving her a magical compact to use as she likes for a year. The first power she gains is transforming into a teenaged version of herself, and she tests it by singing on stage with the wand as a magic microphone, calling herself “Creamy Mami”. Things go awry, though, because now the talent agency president Tachibana wants her as one of their performers, and won’t take no for an answer. Even worse, Toshio has a crush on her too, but only when she’s Mami! It’s not easy being a star, but it can be fun to be a magical one!
