No-Rin Episode 6
Nork22: Yeah… those 4 Kings are into yaoi/BL. We are introduced to the last of the 4 Kings, Torao Kanegami, who is all about making money. And her newest idea is about having a mascot/character placed on your product, which turns regular items into a prized products by otakus. They started out with eggs grown by Yoshida, and it’s rather funny seeing how the process goes along until it’s gotten big that supply can’t keep up with demand. Also when it reached it’s peak in popularity, they sold off the license to a bigger farm group. Makes sense since they aren’t suppose to get into the bigger business as it’s always been a school run project and she knows it won’t go on forever. The talk at the dining table is just pure business and how Kanegami works.
After selling off the egg business, Kanegami, Kousaka, Bio Suzuki and Rintarou band together to sell logs of wood to grow a variety of mushroom, but marketed to the other otaku market – the fujoshi crowd. Why am I not surprise they use mushrooms to target women? But they can’t publicly sell this racy stuff, so they resorted to some kind of word of mouth sales via Bio Suzuki’s fujoshi network. And with big rewards, comes big risk and they all got caught, with each of them getting suspensions or hell camps.
Sensuifu: This show takes a lot of balls to be doing what it’s doing. But they’re doing it right. You know, this entire episode was simply a spoof of Silver Spoon’s pizza episode.
But they executed it in such a way that makes it all more believable do to the circumstances that would happen in real life. On the surface it looks all dumb, but once you get below the comedic values and look beyond the hijinks, there’s a lot of meaning that has some real honesty about it. Just look at the way the mankini-Kei objected to participating in their business ventures. He gave it a lot of thought and didn’t want to take that risk. The characters, with their charisma and personality, make it even more enjoyable. Hah. Kanegami ‘money god’…that name alone gives away the show’s intent…to spoof/homage/nod the current tropes and themes of other anime while having its own fun with them.
Hitsugi Amachi: What makes it work is that for all the stupidity and surface pandering, they also know how to pull back at just the right moment. I like the parodies but where the show surprised me was that moment in the restaurant where Kanegami told Kousaka that they’re getting out of the egg business, because it’s not really allowed for them to go into business full-time as they’re still students. The little speech about using and enjoying the sheltered environment that school gives them was something you don’t often get. Most school-based anime treat it as if that place is the entire world. Here’s a realization that while school is part of the real world, it’s a special place where you can experiment without the nasty consequences that follow out in the cold adult world.
And then she goes straight into her BL mushroom scheme.
This show is really far better than it first appeared to be.
EmperorBrandon: I love the self-referential parody with the constant mentions of Kippu-sensei, eventually going so far to dig into personal details.
Kochou is just so adorable, being so happy the eggs she’s “producing” are getting sold around the nation. Despite her haughty attitude, she’s not good with the public speaking, and that comes out so cutely as well.
Is interesting how they get some criticism of the “moe sells” thing with Kamatori in there. Even Kanegami is smart in realizing the limits of her money grubbing. Ended up pushing things a little too far with the fujoshi-targeted smut angle though and got caught…
