The winter 2014 anime series Z/X Ignition isn’t getting a lot of traction with most Western fans and now it’s facing a bit of a bump in the road in Japan. Originally scheduled for release monthly beginning on March 19th, 2014, all six volumes of the show are now being bumped back two weeks with the first volume now set for an April 2nd, 2014 release. The Blu-ray releases are priced at 6,510 yen each while the DVD are set at 5,460 yen each. Details are slim at this point in regards to on-disc extras but there are plans for first-press limited run pack-ins with the releases in the form of special cards as well as a six page booklet.

Release date changes for all 6 volumes.

  • Vol.1: 3/19/2014 → 4/2/2014
  • Vol.2: 4/16/2014 → 5/7/2014
  • Vol.3: 5/21/2014 → 6/4/2014
  • Vol.4: 6/18/2014 → 7/2/2014
  • Vol.5: 7/16/2014 → 8/6/2014
  • Vol.6: 8/20/2014 → 9/3/2014

The show is based on the trading card game of the same name by Broccoli and Nippon Ichi Software that debuted earlier in 2013. Anime adaptations of trading card games are nothing new, and some definitely go on to have a lengthy and surprising life.

Plot concept: In the not-so-distant future, five portals suddenly appeared acting as gateways to alternative worlds. However, these five worlds are actually the same world, but in different timelines. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, the inhabitants of each world will stop at nothing to ensure the survival of their own timeline, even at the expense of the other timelines. The key to survival lies in one card-shaped device…
