Released over almost twenty years, beginning in 1993 and finishing in 2011, the Black Jack OVAs and the movie are getting a Japanese Blu-ray box set through Odessa Entertainment. The set is one that’s all kinds of positive for Black Jack fans as it’s working off the original masters for the new high definition presentation, not an upscale, and for fans of the English language dub, that will be included as well. Not surprisingly, the dub only covers the first ten episodes that were dubbed and not the final two OVAs that were more recently produced.

The set is slotted for an April 17th, 2014 release for 26,040 yen and will contain no subtitles nor will there be any dub work on the bonus disc. The show portion is about 743 minutes according to the materials available and there will be about 100 minutes of planned bonus material. Bonus materials are to be announced at a future time for club members.

Plot concept: In the medical profession, there is a name spoken in hushed tones, of an unlicensed genius physician who can save lives—for a price. His name is Black Jack, and he is a dashing, moody figure, caped in black, a Harlock of medicine, a man who lives by no rules other than his own—and the Hippocratic Oath. A man who would defy the will of God himself in the name of preserving life.
