While Mai Mai Miracle from Anime Limited achieved its goal of $30,000 in just about a day to get the project funded to go forward, it’s taken a few more days for it to achieve its first stretch goal. And a worthy goal indeed as it was to create a dub for the film, which it managed today and is still going. Crossing the $60,000 mark has made it so that the feature will definitely be a lot more accessible. It’s also getting us closer to the $75,000 stretch goal in which Anime Limited with localize and replicate the original theatrical pamphlet. With the release getting both a US and UK release, this definitely makes it more accessible to audiences and it’s really interesting to see how such a relatively little known feature is doing so well. And what kind of Kickstarter’s we might see in the future for other properties.

Anime Limited originally was looking to raise $30,000 US for this release in order to :

  • Release Mai Mai Miracle in both the UK and the US on Blu-ray
  • Create and add English subtitles for the film
  • Produce quality packaging to house the blu-ray disc and make it Collector’s Edition worthy
  • Share some of the truly beautiful artwork, illustrations and behind-the-scenes goodness that comes with the making of such an animated film

Plot concept: Shinko, is a third grade elementary school student with a magically active imagination. She spends a lot of her time listening to her grandfather’s history lessons, imagining what her town was like 1,000 years earlier. One day, a sad and sombre girl called Kiiko transfers to Shinko’s school from Tokyo. A strong friendship soon grows between the two girls as Shinko helps Kiiko come out of her shell and deal with her loss – all thanks to their adventures, both imagined and real.
