Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode 5
The swimsuit episode has arrived. I can’t imagine why they changed the timeslot …

What They Say:
Yuya and Mitsuki have recently become brother and sister because of their parents remarrying. Mitsuki is having a hard time opening up to her new family, but their parents leave for a foreign country right after getting married before that can get any better. As Mitsuki is troubled by her new life living alone with Yuya, a amnesiac ghost girl, Hiyori, appears before her, and she is forced to help her pass on to the next world…

With the series being pushed into a new timeslot on the Japanese broadcast networks, something that should have happened before it aired based on the material, the show moves easily into its next bit of fun. Which is full of swimsuits and fanservice taken the next level, which is made apparent in the prologue as you get Hiyori stripping down Mitsuki when she’s trying to get changed, which will show off the device she’s being forced to wear for the duration. The embarrassment Mitsuki exhibits is cute as is the playfulness that comes from Hiyori as she’s also just messing around. The two have an incredibly awkward relationship when you think about it, but they’re handling it about as well as could be based on how it’s been revealed so far. But the indoor pool episode may make it problematic.

With the group having formed nicely over the first four episodes, there’s a bit of getting to know you coming from this since they haven’t really spent a lot of time together. There’s some awkwardness that comes with it of course, but largely it’s just light talk and probing to find out the basics about each other while having fun. It doesn’t hurt that they all got in there easily since Ayaka’s father owns the place since she has a hard time making friends. All of that fills Mitsuki in on some of what’s going on, but Hiyori just wants to go play with Yuya. And both of them are a bit frustrated in a way by watching Yukina and her breasts jiggle about with him in the pool. But Mitsuki naturally doesn’t want to get into the water or wet with what she has to have on underneath the swimsuit and the embarrassment that would come should it be revealed. Or should other issues arise.

Naturally, there are comical problems along the way, including a hilarious moment where Yuya takes care of Mitsuki after she has an issue and he ends up giving her his swim trunks. He’s got another pair on underneath, but she has no clue, which sends her blood to another level as he starts stripping down for her. But it’s also awkward because the incident led him to seeing the chastity belt that she’s wearing, though both of them kind of aren’t sure how or whether to talk about it. Amusingly, as she hides away from it for a bit under her blankets in the day that follows, he’s thinking about it a lot and putting together events from when she moved in and starting to wonder if she’s doing it all for him. Classic misread of course, but it makes sense that he might think that way and be both unnerved and flattered by it, and also quite curious. Of course, there has to be a bit of a twist – and drama – thrown into the mix to add a new kind of misunderstanding, but also a lot of concern.

In Summary:
This series continues to have a weird kind of uneven flow about the individual episode stories as they progress that keeps me from really feeling it in a big way. But that’s balanced nicely by the fact that the characters are fun, the fanservice amusing and Yuya’s complete misread of situations leads to some great reactions. But for the most part, I do like that he keeps coming across as a mostly normal guy just trying to do right and not giving in to things. But as we see here, it’s not always going to be easy for him or Mitsuki and that’s going to be comical and erotic, sometimes at the same time, with the way Hiyori tries to work the situation to her own advantage even as everything seems like it’s going wrong.
