After the success of Alice in Wonderland back in 2010 where the upwards of $200 million film made just over $1 billion worldwide in theatrical receipts, a sequel was a given. But it’s not being rushed when you get down to it as it’s not due out until May 27th, 2016. The film will be bringing back Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp is set to return as the Mad Hatter and the new film will be called Through the Looking Glass. With the film title out there, it’s also being revealed that Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to star in the film as well. Tim Burton previously indicated he would not be returning for the film and it’s set to be directed by James Bobin, who handled The Muppets a couple of years ago.

The title for the film does come from the sequel book that Lewis Carroll wrote back in 1871 so it’s not exactly unexpected that it would be called this. How close it follows to the work is a whole other issue of course.

Book concept: In this magnificent sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Alice walks through a mirror straight into the back-to-front Looking-glass Kingdom. There she meets a collection of even ‘curiouser’ characters than before; the walrus and the carpenter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty, the White Knight and the Red Queen, to name but a few. But nothing is quite what it seems…
