Engaged to the Unidentified (Mikakunin de Shinkokei) Episode 2 | TFP ReviewMikakunin de Shinkoukei Episode 2

_PS_: This is pretty cute. I like Kobeni and Mashiro. The character animation is nice and slick, making it stand out for a show like this.

I’m appreciating the fact that they’re more or less playing the engagement thing straight rather than having it be a silly fanservice fest (the fact that HE moves in with HER is refreshing). It still is silly, of course, and I don’t expect loads of drama and development but there is some intangible quality here that I really like a lot.

Though it is hilarious that Benio made Kobeni call her different things at different ages. Kobeni’s reaction to Benio’s over-the-top sistering is refreshing, too. (She’s just desensitized.)

Buckeye: That’s just a nice episode here as it totally makes me attached to Mashiro there. She can be quite the handful when aliens come into the picture here. The past still hasn’t been revealed yet, but I am thinking that Mashiro is actually older than she looks. That’s probably why she is in Kobeni’s class even though she looks like she is in elementary school. Anyway, this show is making a strong push for one of my last spots, though there is lots of competition it has to beat out.

GingaDaiuchuu: I was about to reprimand Kobeni for being another one of those anime girls with perfect bodies who complains about getting fat, especially with it being about her breasts, but then Mashiro did the same, and referred to her as a “character” no less. Good on you, kid. You’ve earned this episode. I do like how Benio can talk about how great different sizes of boobs are and still elicit the same reaction from her classmates.

So we learn a little more about Kobeni’s past with Hakuya. He’s quite the non-character for the most part, almost at the level of the brother from Non Non Biyori. That again makes for some amusing gags, though. Doesn’t exactly make the romance engaging yet, though. Looks like the next episode will focus on that more, so hopefully there will be some good development.

stardf29: Mashiro is too adorable. Not sure how much more of her my heart can take…

Hakuya turns out to have a very reasonable reason for not wanting to tell Kobeni about what happened in the past, though that might end up coming out before the end of the show anyway. Also, LOL @ Mashiro blabbing about their living with Kobeni… and the rest of the class gets fixated on the fact that they’re living with Benio.

hpulley: Really enjoying this series, wow! It really isn’t what I expected. Though with all the UFO jokes I wonder if initial rumors about the groom being an alien were someone’s misinterpretation or real?

Aliens or no aliens, I’m here for the SOL, comedy, romance, amnesia, childhood friends, mountain countryside… just so much going for this show!

Momoka Kibi: Wow that ending was awesome. Clearly the ending is telling that just one Mashiro is not enough for us. We need more of her, much more of her.

I’d criticize the guy for wanting to hide things & his reasons, but to be fair there’s no easy answer here. It’s one of those situations where no matter how its handled a negative reaction is bound to happen.

Mashiro, there are moments she seems like the mature one & then there are moments you’re reminded she’s still a child. Which works.

We need an episode focused on Benio soon. Not just for her, but that episode will probably flesh out Konoha & Nadeshiko a bit more too.

Library-chan: It’s weird how much alien imagery there is in this show. I was thinking that Hakuya is an alien, but the reaction of Mashiro to aliens puts me in doubt. Hmmmmm.

Sensuifu: I think the creators are just playing with the characterizations in a similar way to how Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl was themed. Notice that in the OP it shows only one ‘down to earth’ girl (Kobeni) versus all the strange/eccentric people around her floating in space.

Hitsugi Amachi: I’m not sure why, but I’m finding this show much more entertaining than annoying, even though many elements that often annoy me are present. Maybe it’s just that Kobeni is so nice and sweet, it kind of washes away all the annoyance?

Sensuifu: For me it’s the adorableness of Mashiro added to that. Her getting freaked out by UFOs was too cute. Scared of UFOs at first and then the creatures (aliens) inside them?

Hitsugi Amachi: That’s certainly a part of it. The Mashiro-type often annoys me, but they’ve somehow managed to come up with a variation that is more cute than annoying.
