Noragami Episode 1 | TFP Review
Buckeye: Poor self-proclaimed soon-to-be-famous Yato is left high and dry after Tomone suddenly quits on him. So what does he do? Chase a cat through the streets, causing Hiyori to get clobbered by a bus, who then becomes something of a cat herself. Turns out that she is not quite dead, but not exactly alive.
Well, this show certainly has some potential here. So far, the concept has been rather silly, but with the nice animation Bones is known for. This show looks like it will at least go the full trial period for me, but at least it looks like it will develop into something.
GingaDaiuchuu: … Not the most original plot so far, but not one that I shy away from either, and executed better than many. Add to that great BONES animation, the character designer of Cowboy Bebop (who somehow didn’t get invited to the reunion for Space Dandy; a shame since I like his designs much more than the ones that got), the director of photography of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and of course another amazing Iwasaki (and a supercell ED!, kinda), and this seems like a pretty solid show. Definitely the best first episode of the still very new season so far.
bctaris: I liked this. A lot more than I figured I would reading the synopsis, seeing the promotional art, or even watching the (admittedly generic) OP. Yeah, character design is very comfortable to get into, the animation in general is quite refined–the monsters, specifically, have a fresh feel to them, playing more with the colors as they do (more original than what something like Zsezda World Conquest is trying to do), the comedy fits, and the characters are, well, fun. Hiyori’s a good even-keel heroine, just eccentric enough. (Like the friends, too.) And Yato, despite his role, isn’t whiny, isn’t obnoxious, isn’t too pretty. Reminds me a little of Maoyu from Devil is a Part Timer, actually, just as earnest if less secretly evil. Both leads are likable, really.
The premise seems enjoyable enough, if it doesn’t get too serious.
