Sekai Seifuku (World Conquest: Zvezda Plot) Episode 1World Conquest

Buckeye: Well, that was a weird way to open things up, but it certainly was entertaining. I like the way Kate quotes Abraham Lincoln, seeing how his one weakness is that couldn’t handle bullets seeing that’s the way he died. In any case, this show does look interesting.

GingaDaiuchuu: Well I had some hopes for this, but I’m definitely not feeling the first episode. I had much higher expectations from Nisekoi anyway, and that lived up to them, so I’m not too disappointed. Not a big fan of the loli fanservice, either. And I’m sure some Lincoln lovers were a little offended there.

stardf29: Huh, that was actually pretty good. If nothing else, it’s nice to see someone going for world conquest that’s actually thinking about what to do after the world’s been conquered…

This one can definitely go in some interesting directions if the writers want it to. I’ll continue to keep an eye on it.

Momoka Kibi: Well, this is off to a pretty nice start. If this 1st episode is any indication there will be some seriousness mixed into the comedy.

Kate is awesome & we should all accept her as the overlord. I mean she’s a better choice anyway. Cranky Old Man? Let’s fight against him! Awesome Loli? Let’s worship her. I might be biased.

Well based on the scene after the “Opening” which they decide to play as an Ending this time we have another source of conflict.

Hitsugi Amachi: I did not like it all that much. It really felt like it was trying much too hard most of the time and it shows. Let’s make the characters as eccentric as possible. Let’s give them weird costumes and designs. Oh, and let’s let the cute little girl have magical powers, so it was kind of ridiculous to send tanks against her in the first place.

The show feels like it desperately wants to be Theater of the Absurd, in some ways like Kill la Kill, but the latter show succeeds much more in making its ridiculousness feel effortless. In contrast, I can see the effort here being put into making things seem ridiculous.

I’m not sure I’ll be checking out episode 2.

bctaris: I wasn’t sure what to think, but you may the better view of it. It was fun, in its way, visually entertaining–I mean, I like the absurd costumes and the silly facial animation…just not so much that they’re largely lolified. Could be intriguing and funny if, like stardf29 says, the writers care about what it’s about. But the eagerness to be over the top seems too strong a distraction. I’m reminded, in similar ho-hum ways, to things like Vividred Operation. But it may be something to revisit down the line if pulls itself together.

TAS: Kill la Kill is ridiculous action in an absurd world. But here it’s ridiculous in a normal world, kind of like a version of Squid Girl where they call in the armed forces.

The show was not terrible but it didn’t really work for me.

Jun Kuga: After watching this, I can only dread what would come to pass if Kate ever met Squid Girl. The question is, which would be conquered?

As for the premise, absolutely stupid. But stupid can be good too. And at least there’s no toilet humour yet.

sonic: I too am not sure what to make of this after the first episode, however the visuals and animation were very inviting and lively, loli aspects aside. The premise of world domination by a seemingly young girl and her group of renegades makes this intriguing to watch. Of course, as stardf29 and bctaris mention, how much TLC goes into executing the concept in a way that’s more than just lolicon pandering or superfluous fluff will make all the difference in the long run. I had enough fun with this episode, so I’ll be checking it out next time too.
