Z/X Ignition Episode 1
Buckeye: Sometime in the distant future, a black hole appeared and monsters came out to slaughter everybody, and thus humanity was wiped out. Now, it has become a war between Z/X cardholders from different worlds. Well, not exactly different worlds but the same world from different time frames. And the battles just keep on coming until Asuka finally becomes the focus and is trusted with saving the world. It all begins with him facing a user who is beating up an angel.
My expectations were pretty low for this show, and it was as bad as I thought it was going to be. The story is just all over the place in this episode as I couldn’t understand what was going on. The main protagonist doesn’t get identified until late in the episode when he is trusted with his world’s future by some miko. It’s info dump right out of the gates, and it doesn’t help that it kept switching between battles so randomly. Chances of me following this show were pretty slim to begin with, and certainly an episode like this doesn’t help things at all.
GingaDaiuchuu: I didn’t expect much from something based on a card game, but I gave it a shot anyway. Nope, not happening. That’s one less show on Thursdays, though, so I’m not complaining. At least it’s the one I was probably expecting the least from.
Not the worst thing yet this season, though. Some nice animation, Sawashiro (who I now realize my anime slate has been sorely lacking this season and last), Hikasa song, and not the most terrible pacing.
Nork22: Sticking with it since I’m a bit familiar with the card game, but the whole info dump was rather confusing and I’m not too sure about the plot where different powers wanting to take over certain spots in Japan with summon cards. Surprise to see the white dragon priestess giving the protag an Z/X summon card. Don’t get why she couldn’t have given him one of the dragons as well, but instead instructing him to go capture some Z/X monsters instead. Lucky for him he gets an angel already.
27CansOfTuna: The soundtrack really makes all the events extremely exciting and at the start initially dire and grim for folks (though why is one guy filming on his Tablet when the Black Gates are opening and the Zillion of Enemy X are flying out, it was like they wanted to travel to the next life). The Zillions of Enemy X designs are great and pretty varied with Orichalcum Tyranno being my favorite and then the ones among the Four Angels.
Hearing Syo Kurusu with a touch of Urushihara makes Tennoji a pretty good lead and his personality being all heroic keeps this from being a dull dreary affair and makes it fun even at this apocalyptic time.
Song over playing the ending credits roll (think it was EX:FUTURIZE) is in my favorites for this season.
Enjoyed it and will keep following, would love to see tons more designs and the other characters from the different Zones.
Momoka Kibi: So a bunch of random people are fighting each other using “monsters” in a world that’s basically DOOOOOOOOOOMED. Oh, & there might be a cute girl with a Tyranno in it. I’m tempted to just side with her no matter how evil she may be. I get the feeling the plot is just an excuse for fights. Almost as if this were a commercial for a game. Oh wait.
I might give it another episode or to see if it can establish itself & if any of the characters will grow on me. Right now I’m kind of mixed on it because they just throw us into things. Not mention going from “End of the world” to “Let’s battle with our poke err digi err whatever” in a few minutes felt silly.
