Mahou Sensou (Magical Warfare) Episode 1Magical Warfare

Buckeye: Takeshi just wants to be out of the house that badly that he is even willing to go to Hell to do that. And through a series of events, he kisses a girl by accident after finding her unconscious. And he is greeted by a bunch of thugs, one of them who is Mui’s brother whose memory was tampered with. Turns out Takeshi is not only skilled at kendo, but has some magic in him after Mui’s tsundere antics got the best of her. Isoshima also became one after getting hit by an attack, as well as Ida. The magic is spreading like a plague.

Well, this show certainly looks like it will be very nice to watch, and certainly it is coming out better than Witch Craft Works seeing how the guy is actually taking charge of his life rather than being beaten to a pulp. The concept is definitely there as this is one of the shows I was most looking forward to this season, but I think that there was just too much info dumping in this episode. But at least it’s the type that’s easy to digest.

Shiroi Hane: We only have [Mui’s] word [about her brother’s memory]. What if it was her memory that was altered?

Buckeye: Come to think about it, that could be possible as well. Memory manipulation can be used in many different ways, but for now it’s not something that I will think about too seriously since that’s not exactly the big problem at hand. Not when the reason why Takeshi is so anxious to get away from home has yet to be explained.

GingaDaiuchuu: Ah, this is looking like one of the better shows of the season. Love the animation and music as well, and the Nano theme is always good.

Buckeye: Not only are they a great band, there’s a good chance that the song can be purchased on iTunes. Certainly this has the making of a nice show, but I feel that this episode had lots of setting up that needs to be done in order for this show to reach its potential.

Nork22: Nano isn’t really a band. She’s just a singer. Some of her best songs were her covers of Vocaloid songs.

Oh hey, sorry for being cynical but how can the normal students suddenly developing magical powers? Mui says it has to do with her, but I’m rather suspect about it since Kazumi wasn’t there when it happen but manage to take out one of the other magicians. Anyway has an OK fight scene but would like some more information about the world please.

Shiroi Hane: She said it was exposure to magic. Kazumi “caught” it from the enemy mage who attacked him (before collapsing due to that taboo thing).

27CansOfTuna: The anime magical system feels like something thats been done before in another popular magic series or at least some aspects of it, the Knowing eye at least. Otherwise just odd with giving every character magical powers.

Im glad it feels different then Strike the Blood, but in a season with three magic based Light novel adaptations, its far from being as great as Tokyo Ravens, and somewhere at a level down there with Strike the Blood. Will keep watching.

stardf29: This was okay, I guess. Compared to Witch Craft Works (which it is directly competing against for a spot on my watch list), it’s got a more interesting magic system, and I’m definitely interested in seeing how the other muggles-turned-magicians work their magic; on the other hand, the character interactions in this one are nothing to write home about.

Hard to say which one I’d rather watch. Maybe I’ll just have to give both of them another episode.

EyeOfPain: Kinda makes it difficult to suspend your disbelief when all three of the introduced characters, aside from the family from hell, suddenly contract magicitis. This started out feeling very much like a generic romcom w/magic, but the fact that the main character is already able to defend himself, with only a little help from his newfound powers, does show some promise.

Momoka Kibi: I’m waiting for a parody extra where everyone in the school gets [magicitis] & as it goes further along the powers gained get more & more ridiculous.
