Engaged to the Unidentified (Mikakunin de Shinkokei) Episode 1 | TFP Review
sonic: Well, this was a lot of fun. I really like the characters, the imoutos are so cute, and the comedy is great; their quirky personalities really make them standouts to me. Yonomori Kobeni’s character design reminds me a lot of Akarin from Yuru Yuri; her mother, Yonomori Akane, reminds me some of Lucy from Servant x Service. The story is also pretty interesting. Kobeni’s engaged as part of an arranged marriage to Mitsumine Hakuya, a very reserved and mysterious fellow. The fact he acts so low key and that Kobeni cannot remember meeting him when she was younger plays into the series title labeling him as “unidentified.” The end theme caught me off guard with some of the more risqué still frames at the start; nice tune as well. This was definitely the best first episode for me from this winter season so far, and I look forward to more. The episode title is aptly named too, as it certainly started off on the right foot for me.
EmperorBrandon: It’s funny you mention YuruYuri, and an Akane, since that brings to mind Benio being like YuruYuri’s Akane, except unlike her she’s had no inhibitions while at home. Hehe… Not sure if I will eventually grow tired of her shtick, but I found her the most amusing of the cast so far. Interesting seeing her having a rabid fanclub at school after the same trope just came up in Witch Craft Works, but hers seems like it will be more tolerable.
stardf29: Yeah, this has definitely been my favorite first episode of the season so far, at least as far as non-sequel shows are concerned. Perhaps it just comes from these types of slice-of-life shows being my personal preferred type of show, but everything about this show just felt right: the characters, their interactions, the comedy therein, and some nice moments, such as when Hakuya recognized that Kobeni did feel a little jealous of her sister and went to cheer her up.
I’ll definitely be following this one.
GingaDaiuchuu: Fun stuff. Not my favorite type of show, but it does everything it tries to quite well, and I’m more interested in what the various elements brought together can amount to in the future, more than I usually am for such a show. I generally trust Shimo to do pretty good work, so I expect he’ll continue that throughout the series.
Sly05: The premise is nothing special, but the execution looks to be impeccable which resulted in this being a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting. The first episode convinced me to stick around for more.
Library-chan: Wow…everything’s so…shiny. And there’s a siscon/lolicon sister, Akane. Kind of amusing that Kobeni just gave up on her lecherous sister and went with the flow. Akane’s got a admirer in that other girl.
EmperorBrandon: The siscon/lolicon sister is Benio. Akane is the mother.
stardf29: The confusion is completely understandable, though, considering how a certain other, well-known Dogakobo series had a siscon onee-chan named AkaneâŠ
Momoka Kibi: Clearly the one true pairing of this anime is not our main couple, but their respective sisters. We’ve all been had! Now if Mashiro would accept Benio’s love already.
The main pairing has some potential. Hopefully they can be focused on the relationship & not bog it down with annoying issues. In other words, I don’t want any random challengers trying to get in the way of progress. All they’d do is waste & delay the likely outcome anyway.
Library-chan: Mashiro’s voice is kind of grating, but she’s amusing, and rightly afraid of Akane. Hakuya is a good guy, so thank god for that.
EmperorBrandon: So I wasn’t the only one. Well, does look like she’s a newcomer. Several unfamiliar names in the cast, though some of the others have been in minor roles for a few years.
Sensuifu: I thought she was fine, albeit sounding like a gruffier Kud. Though that probably doesn’t mean much considering I liked Omigawa Chiaki’s voice as P-ko.
stardf29: Mashiro’s voice actually kind of grew on me over the course of the episode. It’s rather fitting for when she’s in panic mode over Benio.
Speaking of being reminded of other characters, Hakuya kind of reminds me of Suguru from Non Non Biyori: an older brother, comes from the mountains, kind and considerate, and while he does speak, he’s still silent most of the time.
EmperorBrandon: Yep, same for me too. Just coming off Non Non Biyori, it’s hard not to think of it when we hear of where those two siblings are from and have scenes like Mashiro’s excitement over having a TV in her room.
