It’s been a long and twisted ride in getting the twentieth anniversary Sailor Moon anime project off the ground as there have been a fair number of delays and walkbacks along the way. But now, the official site has announced that the new anime series will begin airing in July and it will get a worldwide simulcast through Niconico. The Niconico part has been known, though things obviously could have changed, and at the New York Comic-Con last year, it was detailed that it would be subtitled in ten languages to achieve as much market penetration as possible and to stem off any fan streams of it.

Additionally, it’s been revealed that this is not a remake of the original anime series, which took its own liberties from the source material over its extended run, but that this anime adaptation is a more faithful adaptation of the manga. According to produced Atsutoshi Umezawa in a press release detailed on Anime News Network, “This second anime adaptation of Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon is not remaking the previous anime, but adapting [Naoko Takeuchi’s] original manga and starting from scratch again. It is quite a project. The entire staff has been working hard to show everyone an entirely new Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon, so please look forward to it.”

The production team for the series includes:

Director: Munehisa Sakai
Series Script Supervisor: Yūji Kobayashi
Animation Production: Toei Animation
Theme Song Performance: Momoiro Clover Z
