While we saw Escaflowne in its TV and movie form get picked up this summer in North America by FUNimation as a part of the divvying up of the old Bandai Entertainment catalog, there’s still plenty of overseas releases to be placed and moved around with. The latest nod seems to be with this series once again as recent startup Anime Limited looks like they’ve acquired the rights to the series with plans for a late 2014 release on Blu-ray, mentioning an Ultimate Collector’s Edition (possibly the movie) and standard Blu-ray and DVD editions. It’s largely expected that the series and film will be getting a North American high definition release in 2014 and this gives clue as to when it might hit if they’re running along the same time frame with materials acquisitions.
Plot concept: High school student Hitomi is transported from Earth to the magical world of Gaea, where she meets boy prince Van Fanel, and is caught up in his quest to unite the countries of Gaea against the ominous Zaibach empire. On the way, she discovers an hidden ability and strives to unravel layers of mystery surrounding Van, his past, and the giant machine known as Escaflowne.
