I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job (Yusibu) Episode 12 | TFP Review
EmperorBrandon: It’s fitting Raul helps win Fino back by reminding her of one of the more heartwarming bits from earlier, learning all of the different greetings for the customers. It’s kind of odd they threw in the most blatant fanservice moments right at the joyous resolution of Fino fully returning to normal (complete with the ridiculous censoring: this is one thing that I guess will need to be watched on home video to not be as awkward, if it’s uncensored). That took a while, but there’s enough time for an epilogue full of adorable Fino happy dancing over being a senpai to new employee Airi.
Hitsugi Amachi: An utterly predictable ending to the faux serious season ending arc, but that doesn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this show overall. It’s silly fanservice comedy (and I wasn’t as annoyed by the overly obvious censoring of Fino—and the less obvious, but still visible censoring of Airi if you see her in the final moments after the climactic end battle—at this point, I’m used to this kind of censoring on the TV broadcast, replicated in the streams). It knows what it is and revels in it at times. But there were moments over the course of the season where it was more, whether it was the heartwarming nature of Fino and Raul’s relationship or the little bits of social commentary that were slipped in among the boobs and butts.
I’m not sure how you have a story after this, as everything is pretty much wrapped up with a bow on it, but an extra OVA of just comedy antics would not be unwelcome.
One of the better shows this season.
Momoka Kibi: Never before during a battle between a hero and a demon lord has such epic lines been said. That was an interesting gamble that Raul took. Also an amusing one.
Airi being in that uniform almost makes up for her time spent in that battle outfit. Almost.
So the series had some issues you’d expect from the genre, but it definitely turn out to be a decent example of it. Also much better than certain other shows this season.
sonic: Ha ha ha, that [final battle] was my favorite part of the episode; I love how it tied in to the heartfelt moment of Fino’s training at the store with Raul earlier in the series. As far as fanservice type shows, this was one of the better put together ones I’ve seen. It maintained my interest all the way through and had memorable characters at that. The strength of this series lies in the fact the characters look very believable as people in this fantasy world. They could have easily just focused on the fanservice at the expense of any substantive character depth, but to my pleasant surprise they gave them plenty of heart and soul in addition to their other, um, assets. One disappointment I had though was we never saw what happened with the slimes, the sweat shop monsters, and Amada then; was there still a problem with the slimes and did Amada still have a competitive advantage over Leon with the cheap labor? Basically, is Leon able to survive and compete with Amada in that market? That said, this was certainly a show worth watching, if you enjoy these types of series, this season.
EmperorBrandon: Yeah, that was exactly my only disappointment as well. They seemed to build Amada up as a villain to confront, yet they really only played a minimal role in this final arc compared to Raid and Raul’s hero friends (Amada was supporting them behind the scenes, but that’s all we really got from them). I had wondered if they were going to be dramatic in any way with Airi quitting them and going over to Leon, or if we would see her get back at them in some way. Even though she did change jobs, we never really see anything like that either. There still being questions about Amada could be something they left to cover in a second season in the unlikely circumstance they could do one, but with Fino’s, Raul’s, and Airi’s issues seemingly resolved, I wonder what they could do of it anyway.
Nork22: That’s my slight disappointment. There seems to be a bigger threat that’s hinted in the series, but I guess all that matters at the moment was rescuing Fino. I imagine the LN probably would go into the other side of the problem, but it’s a pity that there won’t be more animated.
Raul lived up to his training and became a hero to rescue Fino. That was rather heartwarming. I am going to miss a lot of the cute Fino moments.
Sensuifu: The series was charming, just for the fact that Fino wasn’t grating, which sometimes tends to be the case with a lot of overly genki characters. Same can be said of the supporting characters, which none were annoying.
bctaris: Charming is exactly the word for it. It proceeded to the finale, and ended, pretty well true to itself–which is to say, predictable, but confident. And that’s high praise given how a few other shows just this season tried to wrap things up.
