Log Horizon Episode 11log-horizon-episode-11

GingaDaiuchuu: And onto the next arc. This one is looking to get very interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out. I do wonder about where the personalities for these People of the Land came from. I wonder if/when this whole situation will ever be explained.

A shame it still looks fairly lousy, though.

bctaris: Does it, though? It’s obviously not nearly as dynamic as other action shows, but since half of LH’s purpose is just talking, I think I’ve settled in with it. The color palette has helped a lot, I think, giving the limited animation of the characters and backgrounds a lot of pop and presence. Character detail, in the sense of their costuming, shouldn’t be overlooked, either, with the sheer quantity of character types in this world. If this at least acceptable level of quality is also what is necessary to ensure the show’s length (and at this point, I wish it could double that) then I’m certainly fine with it. (I get all the dynamism and playfulness I need for the entire season in Kill la Kill, and all the splendor in Kyousougiga.)

GingaDaiuchuu: Plenty of shows with a lot less action and a lot more episodes look a lot better. Most of the focus is on characters being relatively static, probably more than they need to be, and even still the character art is all too often wonky and off-model.

Nork22: I was hoping for more explanations this episode on why the PotL invited the Round Table members to ball, but it looks like that has to wait for a bit. Also amusing moments when it switches to the beach training camp.

bctaris: [For the ball query] I think just standard court and diplomatic formality and politeness, and, as Shiroe pointed out, a chance for both sides to apprise each other in a more relaxed atmosphere than a negotiator’s table.

Nork22: However something is brewing in the East, and this might be major. I smell a war coming, and it’s not between the PotL and the adventurers.

sonic: I noticed in the OP sequence there’s an army of monsters, in the dark eyes aglow, seemingly getting ready to attack; plus some fish like monsters with spears. I wonder if maybe that will be the “war” that is coming upon both the adventurers and the People of the Land? We see the People of the Land are sentient, but what about the other NPCs, the monsters?

cxt217: Episode 11 was very interesting in that we see a ‘neutral’ faction, i.e. the People of the Land, not just demonstrating they are a functioning, thinking group, but also take the initiative. That is something very common in strategy games, less in RPGs, where enemies often have effective AIs, but the neutral characters and groups not so much. This arc is going to be good, especially if what the backwoodsmen saw is what it appears.

Marielle’s demand for a vacation and fun, away from the usual grind of work, was amusing too. Yumi Hara’s portrayal of the character reminds me of another character she voiced – Yuko from Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, especially in the lighter moments.

Exactly how the head of the three production guilds decided on which of them would go to meet the nobles was funny, and easily something that could happen in Real Life (And given how they are building a prototype steam ship – no wonder.). Seeing how Minori had a memo book of advice from Shiroe on how to navigate and handle the ins and outs of Elder Tale world was heartwarming. Of course, we also got to see some of the ladies in formal dress, with Henrietta and Misa looking quite stunning, and Akatsuki looking as Henrietta would say, ‘fantastic.’
