The announcement of X-Men: Apocalypse last week was certainly a surprise to many and Fox confirmed it quickly, which has lead to plenty of speculation about the film and a lot of qestions about the cast. Bryan Singer got pinned down for a few questions and the main takeaway is that Days of Future Past will lead directly into X-Men: Apocalypse, and “the new film is intended to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast”. So while the second film is all about the wide, expansive cast that is supposedly going to rejigger the whole continuity problem, the third installment will take us back to the relaunch cast that we got with First Class. And because of this, it makes it easy to see why Hugh Jackman isn’t expected to return for this and likely to focus on a potential follow-up to The Wolverine instead.
