Discotek Media has announced via their Facebook page a February 25th, 2014 release date for their license rescue of Mighty Space Miners. The release is going to bring the original Japanese language track with English subtitles and the English dub that was previously created back to market. Discotek Media has not indicated if there will be any extras on it at this point in time though. The show was produced y KSS way back in 1994 and 1995 and at the time was given a 17+ rating in its US release due to the violence and profanity. The show features music from Kenji Kawai and it was directed by Umanosuke Ida, who also directed some Devilman shows, Tide-Line Blue and the second half of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.
Plot concept: In the mid-21st century, mankind has begun the exploration of space, and one company, Planet Catcher Corporation, has pioneered capturing asteroids and comets to mine the resources within them for use on Earth. On one such asteroid, Tortatis, lives 12-year-old Nanbu Ushiwaka – the only child ever to be born in space and survive.
But survival itself is no longer guaranteed – a military satellite triggers a disaster during a operation to capture Halley`s Comet, and Ushiwaka and his fellow colonists must find a way to survive when both their country and their company abandon them. Can they escape before the nuclear reactor on the asteroid melts down? Or are they doomed to die as they lived, among the stars?
