With the date for release having been set for Star Wars: Episode VII recently, and production offices starting to open and people filtering into them, we’ve got the first official image from the production via Bad Robot. There’s not a lot of material really there, but we do get some of the team with Abrams and the first image of R2-D2, which is a given as one of the characters in the film, even if it’s largely been unsaid. One of the things that was talked about early on in the original Star Wars films as they started in on the original trilogy sequels was the idea that the two droids were essentially the eyes of the universe for the viewers and that they would be the real continuity across all of the films. That’s largely happened so far, though some of the appearances in the prequel trilogy were a bit weak, but it’s welcome to see that they should be making an appearance in the new trilogy as well to help carry it on.
