December is looking to bring out the fan favorite series Mushi-shi in Japan at a more affordable price as a new Blu-ray box set is scheduled for a December 20th release date. The series last had its Japanese box set release done in the spring of 2009, at 34650yen no less, making this one definitely easier to digest if you hadn’t picked it up before. This release is definitely a bit shorter in terms of what it comes with compared to the previous one as it omits the bonus disc the previous set had and the booklet. What it does contain is the ufll series itself and seemingly little else going by the first blush solicitation material that’s available at the moment.

FUNimation has the rights to the show in North America and last released it in a S.A.V.E. package back in 2011. They’ve not indicated any Blu-ray rights or plans for a re-release with the high definition version at this time.

Plot concept: Between this world and the next, there is a point where it becomes impossible to distinguish between plant and animal; between life and death. It is a place man was never meant to tread… It is where you will find the mushi. Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. An unseen river reshaping the path of man, through their very presence we are changed.

Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as “mushi.”
