NouCome Episode 3 | TFP Reviewnoucome-episode-03

GingaDaiuchuu: Okay, so he ends up making her laugh because he slips on the banana peel Chocolat gave him. I guess she really is saving him in this, and it didn’t really seem to help his problems yet, even if it started showing what kind of person she is behind the bizarre front she puts on.

His next mission to see this innocent girl’s panties seems much less likely to help, but in the end I guess the fact that he didn’t choose to do it anyway was a good thing, and the multiple choice seemed to go away without him really noticing. However, the second choice was the same as not answering at all, so I don’t see how that can even count.

I did enjoy the parodies of anime censorship, though.

bctaris: There’s something of an absurd (and juvenile) satire to this show.

Most shows with this kind of ecchi or fanservice content, like this episode had, feature characters doing perverted things and getting perverted rewards for really no reason at all but the visceral entertainment of the audience. This show, in its also unapologetically perverse way, instead gives a purpose to it, showing, like with the censorship montage, the silliness and sometimes uselessness of these elements normally. I know that’s a high-minded quality to ascribe to this, but hey, it reminds me that I can’t fault a show like this that makes no pretense about what it’s showing, and still putting it to the real service of a plot, if I’m going to excuse this sort of content in more serious shows, where it really serves no purpose at all but to keep me around after the commercial break.

sonic: … If a show makes no qualms about using it, especially for comedy more than just ecchi fluff, then I’m also a lot less turned off by it being over the top at times too. NouCome certainly has no reservations in this regard, but sometimes the comedy falls a bit flat around certain bits; most of the stuff with Chocolat is just stupid fanservice, like the banana she pulls out of her breasts that ironically helps Kanade later. I found it interesting Furano told Kanade his attempts to make her laugh were so silly and stupid, as I felt the same way watching last week’s episode; so apparently the writing staff intends for some of the jokes to play as stupidly absurd satire and aren’t necessarily meant to make us laugh, but rather give us a better sense of Kanade’s zaniness with this curse. The censorship stuff was quite funny for me though, and I’ve got to admit I did not see that coming. Also, the subplot with him having to see the panties was really hilarious as well; Kanade wants to be a normal guy and avoid embarrassing this pure-hearted sweet girl, but his curse won’t allow him that luxury. Ouka running off in embarrassment when the wind blew their skirts up a bit, after stating earlier it was no big deal to flash guys, at the end made me chuckle; she’s not as unabashed as she initially thought, but her friend seemed relatively unfazed. I’m also enjoying the alternate endings of what would have happened with Kanade’s other choices; seeing him as underwear with a group of others was priceless.

Overall, I thought the episode started off a little slow, but ultimately hit its stride midway and delivered some fun moments to watch this week. Although, I do still not really like Chocolat, as she comes off as just a dumb piece of fanservice they threw in there to me. This show is really out there at times, but that’s part of what draws me in to watch more; to see what they will think up next.

Sensuifu: episode was pretty drab overall. I don’t know, but it seems like this show is forcing itself to be funny, using conventions that try to prove a point, but then falls short of actually being humorous. The censorship part was alright, but it somewhat felt like a 4th wall-esque perspective, which seemed a little awkward coming from the characters’ point of view. I mean nothing wrong with that if done right; but here, I didn’t think it was. Kind of a pandering way of getting us to laugh, even if the intention was meant to be honest.

But I am curious as to why the choices are fading away. There could be some development with that aspect, which could prove more entertaining than the dull comedy so far.

Hitsugi Amachi: The only thing that…not quite saved it, but at least made it less offensively stupid was that he was able to complete the mission in an unexpected and less blatantly annoying way. Still, this series is moving ever closer to the “No Longer Want To Bother” list.

Momoka Kibi: Given the amount of girls in the opening & number of episodes I get the feeling we’re getting a girl of the week thing from now on. With some girls probably not appearing until their “week” comes up. It remains to be seen if we’ll see much of Konogi after this.

I wonder if they’ll ever explain why the guy got cursed in the first place. Did he accidentally play some online game with some higher power and end up winning?
