The fall anime series Nagi no Asukara now has its home video release schedule setup through Geneon Universal. The series is getting a nine volume release on both DVD and Blu-ray with limited editions. The Blu-ray limited editions are priced at 6300yen for the first volume and 7875yen for the remaining eight volumes each while the DVDs are priced at 5250 yen for the first and 6825yen for the remainder.
The first volume has the first two episodes and comes with a fair bit of extras to it for the limited edition release. The first volume comes with a custom box with a new illustration by Yuriko Ishii that covers the first half of the series, a48 page full color guide book, a CD and several on-disc extras such as the promotional videos, clean opening and closings and a staff and cast commentary track.
Animated by PA Works, the series is being directed by Toshiya Shinohara based on the story my Mari Okada with broadcast set on Tokyo MX and Animax. Okada’s works in the past year alone have been pretty diverse with series composition involvement on Aquarion Evol, Black Rock Shooter, Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, AKB0048, Blast of Tempest, Pet Girl of Sakurasou and AKB0048 next stage.
Plot concept: The series centers around two middle school friends, the indecisive crybaby Manaka Mukaido and Hikari Sakishima, who has looked after her since they were children. They and their friends are live under the sea.
