Dragon Ball Z is the franchise you just can’t keep down and even Madman Entertainment makes that clear in calling it an evergreen property. This comes from the news that the Australian distributor has picked up the rights to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. The feature, cataloged as the fourteenth full feature of the franchise, was in theaters in March of 2013 and marked the first time that a film from this franchise actually got theatrical release since the mid 1990’s. The film was noteworthy for a number of reasons but also because Akira Toriyama, original creator of the manga, was involved in its creation. According to Madman, this is “the first film in the series to be considered an official part of the original DRAGON BALL manga storyline.”
The feature will premiere at the 17th Japanese Film Festival, touring Australia Oct – Dec, 2013. It will also screen in select Australian cinemas in 2014.
