Based on the solicitation information for Gatchaman Crowds that VAP is putting out now, expectations must be quite low when it comes to the series and its performance. While it’s not uncommon for some series every season to go right to the box set route rather than work the singles, the January 22nd, 2014 release of this series on DVD and Blu-ray are priced ridiculously low – for Japan. Pre-discount prices for the sets are:
- BD-Box: 19740yen
- DVD-Box: 15540yen
The box sets will have a first pressing bonus of a Berg-Katze notebook that ties into the show. Additional extras appear to include a radio CD drama and a booklet. On disc extras will have director and staff commentary and more as well as a newly designed box art and digipak artwork inside.
Crunchyroll has been streaming the series since its debut and Sentai Filmworks picked up the home video rights earlier today.
Plot concept: ‘Gatchaman’ is the general term for warriors who wear special power suits called NOTE, which are manifestations of special spiritual powers possessed by living beings. The Gatchaman force on Earth consists of aliens who have been dispatched by a council and Earthlings who have been scouted for their latent abilities, all of whom work together to protect Earth’s people and resources from alien criminals who have invaded the planet in violation of the probation enforced by the council. Most recently, their main duty is dealing with MESS, a mysterious entity about which even the council has little knowledge.
