Vin Diesel Updates On ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Role

2 min read

Vin Diesel GrootThe reveal that Vin Diesel would be joining Guardians of the Galaxy was fairly surprising since it hits just as the film was going into production, but what it turned out to be was in the end somewhat amusing but also something that could draw him in more. He was asked recently about his role as Groot and whether it would be limited to just doing the voice work:

“It’ll be voiceover, MoCap and all of that stuff,” Diesel says. “It’s going to be super cool.”

Considering that he’s jumping into Fast & Furious 7 in another week or so, he’ll be bounding between things for a bit, but it’s expected that the transformed Groot role won’t be a huge one that takes up a monstrous amount of time. What his participation also means is that there’s a chance that he may be part of the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line, both as a returning Groot character but also something else.

“What we were initially talking about was a fresh IP,” says Diesel, “and that was the focus of our conversation. A fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017 to potentially launch a third phase. When we went to Comic-Con, we realized that we wanted something more immediate.”

The talk of something in 2016 or 2017 definitely sparks the mind more towards a Black Bolt role in the often talked about Inhumans movie that Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has talked about off and on for some years now.

Directed by James Gunn, the August 1, 2014 release stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Honsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close and John C. Reilly.
