The next actor to take up the mantle of Batman will be Ben Affleck when he debuts in the Superman/Batman team-up movie due out on July 17th, 2015. The sequel to Man of Steel is serving as a team-up to introduce a wider and shared DC cinematic universe. Affleck had previously been on a short list of people to direct a Justice League movie, but at the time he indicated he had no desire to return to the capes world after Daredevil.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

The film is bringing back Henry Cavill and Amy Adams and Zack Snyder is set to return as director as well.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.”

The new film will have no connection to any previous Batman films as the Man of Steel film is essentially considered the new starting point for the DC Comics based films.
