Considering the luck Universal has had with comic book to movie adaptations, you have to wonder why they’re doing it, but they know there’s a chance in there somewhere with this books to create a franchise. And thankfully, for better or worse, they’re not grabbing up tons of capes and tights books but rather something different. Such is the case with the acquisition of Day Men, which just had its first issue come out from Boom! Studios and sold out very quickly with print editions. Universal has gone in with a pre-emptive seven figure bid to grab this title that was created by Matt Gagnon and co-written with Michael Alan Nelson with artwork by longtime artist Brian Steelfreeze.

Plot concept: For thousands of years, the world has been controlled by the “50 Families” — a secret network of vampire covens engaged in a timeless struggle for power. But when the sun rises, the vampires are forced to employ the services of a human who acts as their daytime fixer and protector…Trained for centuries to be the mortal soldiers of their vampire employers, the Day Men go forth at sunrise, alone into the world, to do the bidding of their sleeping benefactors.
