Kadokawa Sets Japanese ‘Future Diary’ Blu-ray Anime Box Set

2 min read

Future DiaryThe ninth and final volume of the Japanese release of Future Diary is set to hit at the end of this month and Kadokawa is moving quickly to bring it out in a full box set that’s now due on November 29th, 2013. The set is just getting first blush notification at the moment and isn’t listed at retailers at the moment, but it will be priced at 39,900 yen for the complete series. It’s a small but noticeable savings overall compared to the individual regular and limited editions releases, but you also don’t get all the first press material that came with those volumes either.

The series was simulcast in North America by FUNimation and is being released on DVD this fall. Due to common licensing restrictions with Kadokawa, no Blu-ray can be produced right away, but the release of a box set of a series after singles is usually a sign that we’re closer to getting it and a spring 2014 release timeframe wouldn’t be surprising if FUNimation is able to pursue that eventually.

Plot Concept: Reality quickly unravels for antisocial Yukiteru when Deus Ex Machina calls him into a death match to determine the new god of space and time. Each mentally scarred player possesses a prophetic device tuned to his or her personality disorder, giving them control over their future… and the fate of their opponents. It’s their strongest weapon – and their greatest weakness.

Within hours of abusing his digital diary’s predictions, Yukiteru is cornered by a crazed classmate. Yuno – who is obsessively stalking him with her own psychic cell phone – is cute, sharp, and great with an ax. Still, her psychosis hides a vile secret. As a serial killer, a cult priestess, and a volatile escape artist take a stab at eliminating the teens, Yuki can cheat death under Yuno’s maniacal protection or – DEAD END.

  1. I’ve been interested in this series for awhile but I just don’t see the value in purchasing new anime (newly released, not re-released) on DVD. Any new anime that I buy is always on Blu Ray and this may be worth the wait.
The premise is really interesting and I really enjoy these type of series.
    Thanks for the news update!

  2. I really hope the Blu Ray collection won’t cost as much in America, as is the translation from 39,900 yen. That would equate to over $300! I want to get the series in Blu Ray, but not for that price.
