With the series running in Japan and FUNimation simulcasting it in North American, Rondo Robe has released the first trailer to promote the DVD and Blu-ray release of Danganronpa. The show, working off of the game of the same name and the manga that was created, is being directed by Seiji Kishi, who comes off of Persona 4: The Animation, and the anime will feature the same voice cast as the game itself from the Sony PSP release. Studio Lerche is behind the animation production. The murder mystery visual novel game was originally released in 2010 and got an iOS/Android release in 2012. Developed by Spike, a sequel was released in 2012 as well. A manga adaptation was begun in 2011 illustrated by Hajime Touya based off of the work from Spike.

The first volume is getting both a DVD and Blu-ray release starting on August 28th, 2013 with the Blu-ray set for a 4,200 yen release and the DVD at 3,150 yen.

Plot concept: Hope’s Peak Academy is an exclusive private school that only accepts the best of the best. Graduates of this elite — yet enigmatic — institution have the world at their fingertips, but getting a cap and gown is easier said than done. The hallowed halls are ruled by the sadistic administrator Monobear, who declares that the only way to pass the class is by sending a fellow student home in a body bag.

If you can get away with murder, you’ll get your diploma. But if you’re caught red handed, you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of a deadly detention slip!

When your principal is psychotic and your finals are fatal, high school goes from being the best years of your life — to your last.
