What They Say
While Yuuto’s away, the Nine-Tails comes to play! Himari and Shizuku are home alone when their foxy enemy drops by out of the blue to hit the pair with a vicious assault that forces them to flee. Meanwhile, Kuesu, having rushed after Yuuto and company, looks to launch the decisive battle with Shuten-Douji all on her own?! All involved will be reeling with passion and loss before this battle ends…

With the final battle approaching, Jinguuji is working on powering up. She is already a very strong witch, but she undergoes a special ceremony to remove her “limiter” and give her access to all her power. Although, that could be dangerous for her own health because her family places limiters on themselves to protect their health from the physical wear and tear of too much power. I really don’t think Jinguuji cares about her own health as long as she can protect Yuuto.
Even with Jinguuji’s extra strength, they are in a full blown battle to the death, especially since their forces have been split between Shuten-Douji and the Nine-tailed Fox. Jinguuji is so sure of her power that she takes on Shuten-Douji in a battle that puts previous fights in this series to shame. Meanwhile, Himari is battling the Nine-tailed Fox, who is a bit of a cheater. The Nine-tailed Fox is controlling the class president and making her fight Yuuto so he can’t help Himari. It is a low-down trick considering Yuuto needs to stop his class president without hurting her. Plus, the Nine-tailed Fox also has some ayakashi fighting for her, so the odds are definitely stacked in her favor.
In a surprising bit of revelations for Shuten-Douji, he recants a tale from his past before he was nearly destroyed. I was surprised to see that side of his character, but it was cool. I always like seeing the ‘why’ part of a bad guy’s motives. But this isn’t the only surprising thing to happen in this battle. One of the main characters shows a great level of maturing when they sacrifice themselves to save another person, especially since they never would have done it before meeting Yuuto. I can’t go into anymore detail about this or the battle because there are very large ramifications for the series.
In Summary
This may be the best volume in this series. Not only does the fanservice get sidelined a bit for the story, but characters evolve and there is a decisive battle that changes the outlook of this series. The battle is so big it nearly ends the series. However, it may also open the story up for a pivotal change in direction, if the author wanted to go that direction. That remains to be seen, but I continue to like this series more and more as time passes. I really have to give a nod to any series with the guts to kill off characters.
