One of the films of 2014 that I’m most eager to see is that of Transcendence, which is the directorial debut of Wally Pfister, the man behind the cinematography of many of Christopher Nolan’s films. Written by Jack Paglen, who has been tapped to write the Prometheus sequel now, the film has a few things hitting today of interest. The first is that we get an on-set photo with the production team and Johnny Depp hard at work, a teaser poster for the film and an international featurette aimed at the Chinese market, since there are financial considerations being made with how the production is being put together to appeal there. This is similar to what we’ve seen with a few other films, notably with Iron Man 3 recently. The film brings together Johnny Depp with Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Paul Bettany, Clifton Collins Jr., Cole Hauser, and Morgan Freeman and opens April 18, 2014.
Plot concept: Computer scientist Evelyn Caster uploads her husband Will’s brain into a computer after he is assassinated by terrorists. They work toward their goal of technological singularity for creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain.
