After a first season that left me in stitches, Senyu comes back for more and picks up where we left off, which includes some characters still in jail. Even though there’s a few months between when it ended and this one, there’s little in the way of recap, but events move quickly here as we get lots of violence and blood here while everyone is still pretty much sitting in the jail cell, including our ostensible hero, Alba, who is becoming more of a background character simply by the nature of events. Amusingly, while those in the cell are coping with Hime’s level of brutal violence, we get Rchimedes and the others that took the teleportation option getting stuck in a dimensional rift, which is actually a pretty sucky place to be since Janua is all sad over the way everyone made fun of his ninjitsu, calling it magic instead or just plain making fun of him.
In Summary:
Senyu was one of my great favorites of the short form series out there, especially those that focus exclusively on comedy, and the start of the second season definitely takes a bit of getting adjusted to. The comedy and style is the same but getting back into its mindset of wackiness and incremental change definitely takes a few moments, which is essentially the length of the episode. That said, getting back on track here is definitely fun, from Hime’s lashing out to the way Janua is all sad and especially to Alba sitting there on a rock, thanking his mother mentally for tuning into the episode. It’s an odd beast here and those that get, it get.
