What They Say:

There is one person who knows his true nature, and this girl will do anything to nurture what this Charles Baudelaire hides.

Content:
Though her friend Ai is shocked and tells her to go to the cops upon hearing Nanako’s story, Nanako remains determined to find out what the deal is with Takao and Nakamura. When Takao puts a pair of panties on a statue at school, Nanako and Ai decide to tail him once class lets out, discovering his hideout in the process. Takao and Nakamura leave, and upon viewing the inside, Nanako decides that she cannot forgive them.

Once summer break starts up, Takao and Nakamura meet up to discuss their plans for the summer festival, and Nakamura gets drunk off of a shockingly small amount of beer. As Ai and Nanako continue to observe the pair, Ai breaks down and questions just why Nanako cares so much about Takao. Nanako claims that he’s the first person to every see her for who she truly is, but Ai retorts that she’s just jealous of Nakamura, forcing the two to separate on bad terms. Claiming that she has lit his things on fire, Nanako draws Takao to the hideout and throws herself at him. Desperate, she goes on to effectively rape him in a rush of animalistic energy, only for him to push her away and declare that he loves Nakamura, tears streaming down his face. As Takao departs, he sees flames coming from the direction of the hideout, and rushes back just in time for Nanako to tell Nakamura that she slept with him. As things turn rather catty, Nanako finally blurts out the heart of the matter, questioning why she can’t be Nakamura.

As the volume closes, workers cleaning up the burned down hideout find Takao and Nakamura’s plan book.

In Summary:
The cover of this volume is certainly fitting, as Nanako absolutely steals the show throughout the book. Though her actions may have been questionable in past volumes, here they come clearly to light. In fact, this series once more does what it does best by having her throw her raw emotion onto the page with a sort of frantic energy. Though she may have been a bit bland at the start of the series, she truly seems to have become the most interesting character of the main trio. Meanwhile, the cliffhanger at the end of the book is intriguing, promising to lead to some rather serious repercussions. Amazingly, this series still seems to get better with every volume, with this book proving to be no exception.
