The idea of a live action Kiki’s Delivery Service can be a bit unsettling for older fans of the anime feature from Studio Ghibli, but with the film working off of the original source material novels rather than adapting the anime film to live action, it has some potential for a different approach that could be more natural in some ways. Or less natural in others. The first clue to what the spring 2014 film will be like has come out with a look at Fuka Koshiba, the sixteen year old playing Kiki, as she’s in full costume in front of a set. The film is being directed by Takashi Shimizu who is known for his work on films such as The Grudge.
Plot concept: The book follows Kiki, a young witch. Her mother is also a witch, but her father is not. Kiki is now thirteen and must spend a year on her own in a town without other witches. She must use her magic abilities to earn her living. She is accompanied by her cat Jiji.
