While most anime series are getting simulcast runs these days, there are those that do still slip through the cracks, especially ones considered aimed more at kids. Enter Chou Soku Henkei Gyrozetter, a series that kicked off in the fall of 2012 and ran for twenty four episodes that was about cars, shonen characters and mecha that’s based on the Square Enix game of the same name, which also spawned a manga series. It may not light up a lot of fires, but it has some good names behind it with Shinji Takamatsu directing it. He’s done a few things like After War Gundam X, a little show called Gintama as well as Ixion Saga DT. He also goes way, way back with work on a number of Gundam properties, including episode director for half of Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. The show also has some strong talent in the writing department was it was done by Dai Sato, whose credits include Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Eureka 7, Ergo Proxy and a whole lot more.
And it’s all animated by A-1 Pictures to boot.
The show is getting its first home video release coming up on August 28th in the form of a DVD box set, the first of two, which will run for 10,500 yen. Sadly, no Blu-ray release appears to be in the works for this. The show has some good looking animation and smoothness that looks like it would benefit immensely from it when it comes to the racing and mecha.
Plot concept: In 21st century Japan, cars with artificial intelligence for increased safety, known as “A.I. cars,” have revolutionized the car industry. Special schools teaching children driving A.I. cars have been established. One day, Kakeru Todoroki, a fifth grader of Arcadia Academy, was summoned by the school principal and given an A.I. car “to save the humanity by chosen drivers like you.” The car, however, is not just a car but also a transforming robot known as “Gyrozetter.”
